Services we offer
Whether you're working on a development project or seeking strategic ecological input, we can help you navigate legislation and make informed decisions, while protecting the environment around you.

Protected Species Surveys and Reports
We’re licensed to carry out surveys for many of the UK’s most protected species, ensuring your projects meet legal and planning requirements.
To ensure your survey is accurate and compliant, check our survey calendar below, to see when the best time for your survey may be.
Preliminary Roost Assessments (PRAs)
A Preliminary Roost Assessment (PRA) is an initial bat survey that assesses buildings, trees, or structures for their potential to support roosting bats, identifying whether further survey work is needed.
Our ecologists carry out a detailed inspection to identify potential roosting features and evidence of bat activity, before providing clear guidance on whether further surveys are required, and your next steps.
Ecological Clerk of Works
To ensure your project is legally compliant, PJH Ecology provides Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) services for development, construction, and vegetation management.
Whether you’re looking for compliance monitoring, an ecological consultant, pre-work checks, or site staff training, our ecologists will help ensure that the ecological measures set out in your planning terms are adhered to, for maximum efficiency, and environmental protection.
Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAS)
A PEA is often the first step in assessing a development site. It identifies existing habitats, the potential presence of protected species, and any ecological constraints that could affect your project.
PJH Ecology conduct a comprehensive walkover survey, to provide you with clear recommendations for next steps - including whether further surveys are required.
Preliminary Method of Works (PMW)
Our PMW reports provide clear, practical guidance for contractors and developers to ensure works are carried out in compliance with wildlife legislation. They outline potential ecological constraints, set out precautionary working methods, and include toolbox talk material to brief site teams. Designed to be straightforward and actionable, PMWs help reduce risk, prevent delays, and safeguard protected species during site operations.

What our clients say
“I’ve been working with PJH Ecology for the past year, and it’s been an excellent experience. Poppy is brilliant at sourcing a steady stream of work and great at matching my skills to the right opportunities. Thanks to her strong industry connections and understanding of client needs, I’ve had the chance to work on a wide range of infrastructure projects, including those with National Highways and Network Rail.
As a subcontractor, it can be both challenging and time-consuming to build new relationships and secure consistent work, but PJH Ecology takes that pressure off. A professional approach and strong networking capabilities make PJH Ecology a valuable partner for any ecological subcontractor.”
